New Year, New Look, Same Amount of Spicy

Steph and I are excited about some of the goals we have for Spicy Designs this year. But our underlying theme to all of them is S-I-M-P-L-I-F-Y. Hence the new simplistic look of our blog...we figure our products can do most of the talking for themselves! And as very busy mothers of young babies, it is important for us to keep our priorities straight. But what creative person can survive without an outlet!? None that I know of, so Spicy will remain to "be." We'd invite you to enjoy us on this grand adventure of 2012 and add a little SPICE to your life if you feel so inclined. :)

Welcome, Baby Senya!

Steph is now a proud mama of two beautiful girls. And despite her extremely busy life, she has been developing some amazing design concepts that we are excited to try out.

No doubt you will be seeing Miss Senya modeling something Spicy in the future. :)

though filling spicy orders is extremely fun and fulfilling :), it is also fun to "let our hair down" creatively. steph and i thrive on "creating new." it's our sanity outlet.

i personally have been working on a few of those "hair down" projects the past two weeks during my son's naps - and oh, what a rush! i LOVE spending some quality time with my simple sewing machine and iron. :)

hello, friends!

seems like i'm always mentioning that we're still here despite the obvious lack of communication. and since communication is my "department," i apologize for the serious slackishness {which isn't a word though it should be}.

here's the deal - steph and i have been extremely preoccupied with our families this past year.
and one of our stipulations in starting spicy designs was that we would never let the business take priority over our families. so we haven't. we've worked on various projects here and there, but the original gusto in which we started spicy has faded...just a bit. so we have decided to rework a few things - one of which is our website. we are letting go of our website since it has proven to do little for us by way of interest and sales.

OUR BLOG AND ETSY SHOP, HOWEVER, WILL REMAIN ACTIVE. everything else about us - love for custom orders, new designs, and bright colors - will remain the same. we will have a slue of scripture bags ready soon - just in time for the holiday season! so feel free to visit those two sites often {we promise to try harder and communicate more frequently :) }.

well friends, it's been a L-O-N-G time. the only defense i have going for me is this: i have been making a baby. :) i am now 36 weeks along and totally exhausted. a lot of "life" has been put on hold during this amazing process, including almost all things spicy. in some ways that makes me feel sad inside, but we were not created to do it all. and so spicy has been set on the back burner...which is set to "warm" not "off." :)

as always, we have lots of completely fabulous products available in our etsy shop, so please feel free to stop by there to fulfill the need for your sister's birthday present, niece's graduation, or mother's day gift.

we are here. we still make awesome bags and such. we are just juggling a few other life happenings as well.

chaos, life's priorities, and a show

wow. talk about missing in action! we are currently recovering from a condition many of you have experienced at some point in your life - a huge overturn and completely chaotic rearrangement of life's priorities. a battle between what is required, what is expected, what is desired, and what one is actually capable of handling <-----that's always been the real clincher for us!

apparently we were closer to the "not so capable of handling it all" point then we thought. so please accept our sincere apologies for our temporary absence. we are here. and we still wish to spread spiciness across the globe! :) we are excited to participate in the oh sweet sadie! holiday show at soda row shopping district in daybreak, utah next month. we will be featuring several new and exciting products at the show, so be sure to stop by and check it out! the oh sweet sadie! holiday show is november 11-13 with a special pre-show party on wednesday, november 10 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. the pre-show party is by invitation only, so if you'd like to attend, let us know and we'll add you to the guest list!

one of the great products we will be featuring at the show is our iliana baby girl blazer. perfect for this lovely fall weather, our iliana blazer comes in sizing for 18 months, 2T, 3T, & 4T. the iliana has a designer fabric exterior, fully lined interior, and coordinating fabric details - pockets, cuffs, and collar. all of these great features for $35.00!

Craft Lake City to Celebrate the Do-It-Yourself Craft Movement
130 Local Artists will vend at festival on August 14, and the movie Handmade Nation will be screened August 15

SALT LAKE CITY, July 27, 2010 – SLUG Magazine is proud to announce their festival, Craft Lake City (CLC), which celebrates alternative craft and all things handmade {and spicy designs will be there!}. A movement is taking place all across Utah in spare bedrooms, family rooms and garages. The movement is called do-it-yourself or alternative crafting, and artists are making everything from soap, to stuffed animals, to recycled clothing {and super spicy bags, baby blazers and hats, and pillows}. Women and men are making and selling their own goods, lashing out at sweat shops and striking a blow against exploitive business practices often associated with big business.

The second annual CLC will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Gallivan Avenue, behind the Wells Fargo Building, in downtown Salt Lake City. The event is free and open to the public. A panel of local artist selected 130 of the best Utah crafters to vend at the event.

now that it's summertime and the sun is sizzling, we would like to introduce one of our newest products to you, the joon cap.

this all fabric girls cap comes in sizes for 1-2 years and 3-6 years {though you are welcome to contact us if a larger size is needed}. an elastic band in the back of the cap allows for a flexible, comfortable fit. designer fabric exterior with coordinating fabric interior with a fun fabric flower accent.

today's make a statement feature is our jessica pillow covers. our pillow covers come in a set of 2, they have zippered closures {so that you can hand-wash them in cool water when needed}, and measure 18" x 18". our covers do not come with pillow forms {however IKEA sells them for a great price} and they add just the right amount of color and spice to any room. for more details, visit the spicy designs "sassy" tab.

Happy Mother's Day!

Since losing my mother three years ago on May 28th after her long battle with cancer, I have a whole new perspective on mother's day...it is not only joyous because I get to celebrate my days of being a mom, but it is also a day where I constantly think of my own mother and how much I miss her. In many ways I see my mother in me and in other ways I yearn to be more like her. She was a woman of faith; she did not doubt who she was or what her purpose was. She lived a life of service and love. Thank you mom for letting me know every day that I was loved and for sharing enough love to sustain me through the rest of my life until I can be with you again. To all of you amazing women...happy mother's day.

spring is my favorite season. i love the cool mornings & evenings, sunny & warm days, and fresh mountain breezes. and like so many others, i begin to feel the need for cleaning and clearing out the house...the traditional yearly "face lift," if you will.

this year i decided my kitchen would be the lucky recipient of my "beautification expertise." {expertise being a very b r o a d and liberal term here!} all winter long, i felt like my kitchen lacked the pazazz i felt it should have {side note: a good majority of my time is spent in the kitchen cooking and entertaining guests, so pazazz is a vital ingredient to my sanity}. and thanks to a very wonderful friend, the inspiration i lacked came to me neatly wrapped with birthday greetings upon it not long ago.

the gift & inspiration...

this lovely steel breadbox offered the perfect shade of vintage teal i needed to brighten up my kitchen palette. coupled with some vibrant orange accents, such as hand towels and retro fabric table runners {compliments of spicy designs, of course!}, my kitchen instantly turned from drab to fab.

Hey, Friends!

Well, we can probably be deemed official SLACKERS! We apologize profusely for the delay with our spicy website. Who knew click and drop and type and crop could be so complicated!? It's like, "Hello! Where did Spicy go!?"

But no need to fear, fellow color-lovers!

We are still here and our Spicy products are available for sale...at our Etsy Shop. True, only pre-made products can be purchased there, but hey, they're still pretty awesome! We promise to keep working hard on our site so that you can customize your little hearts out. Soon, friends, very soon!!! We have some VERY EXCITING THINGS PLANNED, so don't give up on us just yet!!! :)
